His death certificate gives his birth date 28 Aug 1861, New York, NY, which is inconsistent with other data. However, it shows his parents to be Edwin Welch and Virginia Bassford, so it must be the right person.96
He first married Bessie HASKIN, daughter of Hon. John B. HASKIN, on 9 Nov 1870 in Fordham, NY.97 Born abt 1850 in New York.54 age 30 in 1880 census. Bessie died ? . aka: Roberta.96
The 1880 census lists Bessie as the daughter of Edward and Virginia, but I think she should be the daughter-in-law.54
They were married by Rev. Jacob Fehrman at the residence of the bride’s father.97
He second married Catherine MORAN, daughter of John W. MORAN & Bridget MORLEY, in 1892 in Rochester, Monroe Co., NY.220 Born on 31 Mar 1858.220 Catherine died on 5 May 1907.220
After her death, her sister Mary Ann (Moran) Ferris raised Catherine’s children.220
