Reminiscence of Luther Basford
(A Story of the Early Wisconsin Territory in 1836)

Foreword

I discovered this eleven page legal sized document to be onfile at the State Historical Society archives in Madison, Wisconsin. I traded a copy of the letter from Betsy Gibbons Basford to her son Luther written in 1841 for a copy of Luther's reminiscences. I thought that the narrative was so descriptive of the journey that many thousands of emmigrants must have made to the early Wisconsin Territories, that I would transcribe the document here for all to enjoy. The manuscript is hand written and bears Luther's signature at the end. If anyone wishes a copy of the original document send a check for $4.50 to cover the cost of copying, envelope and postage to Charles Basford c/o Associated Business Consultants, 7 N. Pinckney Street, Suite 25, Madison, Wis. 53703.
