Moved to Albany, NY at the age of 16, where he learned the carpenter's trade, working some 5 or 6 years in Albany, and New York City. [316]

He was engaged by a company of land speculators to build the "Denison House" hotel in what is now Cassville, Grant Co., WI. The project failed, and he returned east. He was again approached by the company to return to Wisconsin and complete the project. He removed to Grant Co., WI in Jul 1836. [316], [573]

The Denniston House of Cassville, WI opened in 1854, and has been in continuous operation as a hotel. [193]
