In the 1860 census she is listed as a student at the Maryland Blind Institute (12th Ward, Baltimore, MD, p. 943). Her name is given as E. Jane Basford, and her age is given as 14. [66] (She is also listed with her parents.)

He is probably the Charles Basford, age 21, b. MD, farmer listed in the 1870 census for District 1, Anne Arundel Co., MD, p. 528. [78] However, it seems unusual that a blind man would be a farmer. This is probably the same Charles Basford who married Laura Talbott on 9 Dec 1873. [32]
